Rwanda Restricts Entry From DR Congo Over Ebola Concerns
(MENAFN) Rwanda has introduced stricter entry measures for travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region, according to reports.
The Health Ministry announced on Friday that Rwandan citizens and foreign residents with valid proof of residency who have been in Congo within the past 30 days will be subject to mandatory quarantine in line with public health protocols.
It also said that foreign nationals who have traveled through or stayed in Congo within the same 30-day period before attempting entry into Rwanda will be denied access.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported a rise in Ebola infections since an outbreak was declared on May 15 in Ituri province, with the disease also spreading to North Kivu and South Kivu.
The World Health Organization said there are about 750 suspected cases and 177 suspected deaths, while confirming at least 82 infections and seven fatalities.
Two imported cases involving Congolese nationals have also been detected in neighboring Uganda, prompting regional precautions, including Uganda’s suspension of flights to and from Congo to limit further spread.
