Russia, Ukraine Carry Out New Prisoner Exchange
As stated by reports, the exchange was carried out with humanitarian mediation provided by the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The released servicemen are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving psychological and medical support before being transferred onward.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its personnel will be taken to Russia for further treatment and rehabilitation at military medical facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed the exchange in a post on X, noting that those returned include members of the Armed Forces, National Guard, Border Guard Service, National Police, and the State Special Transport Service.
Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War described the swap as a continuation of an earlier exchange carried out during the Easter period. It also expressed appreciation for the roles played by the US and the UAE in facilitating the agreement.
According to reports, Moscow and Kyiv previously conducted a similar prisoner exchange on April 11, during which 175 servicemen were released on each side in connection with Orthodox Easter arrangements.
