While the company has long offered forgings as rough-machined parts, recent upgrades in equipment and process control have further optimized AMFG’s ability to provide near-net geometries with minimal waste and improved material performance. Miniature examples of these forgings will be highlighted at FabTech 2025 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, September 8-11.

Unlike starting from a large forged block that must be heavily machined and then heat treated—often leading to inconsistent mechanical properties at depth—near-net-shaped forgings are forged to follow the outline of the final part as close as possible with rough machining before heat treatment, allowing for more uniform property development throughout the critical sections of the final part. This approach helps reduce machining time, tooling wear, and uncertainty in mechanical properties at depth from heat treatment.
